Sandy Hammer > Like virtually every other ancient structure in England (which is most of the architecture), the Salisbury Cathedral is under restoration and thus covered with scaffolding.
Sandy Hammer > The interior is magnificent and innundated with tourists. But, tourism seems to be all that is keeping many of the cathedrials going. The presence of pointed arches, I am told, indicates the architecture is gothic.
Sandy Hammer > These beautiful stained glass windows are still intact and date from the 13th Century.
Sandy Hammer > More stained glass.
Sandy Hammer > We took the Tower tour. So, up the narrow stone steps we went.
Sandy Hammer > Strange beasties appeared in the oddest places. Actually, there were examples of the practical tests that stone masons had to pass before being allowed to cut stone for the cathedral.
Sandy Hammer > The nave from the first celestory.
Sandy Hammer > The details on the carvings was incredible. Especially so because much of the carving was done in a soft sandstone-like material.
Sandy Hammer > The Parapet over the nave.
